Wigan Warriors 48 - 24 Warrington Wolves

The vibrant atmosphere of the city inspired an exceptional performance from the quadruple champions, the Wigan Warriors. Although the Wolves demonstrated promise during the first quarter of the match, from minutes 17 to 67, they appeared to struggle significantly, as if playing under the constraints of a power outage. In contrast, the Warriors showcased a remarkable display of skill and quality, dominating the game with their supercharged performance.

Let's take a look back at the game:

Over the moon with the result but a bit of a shame we let them score those totally undeserved points on us. It’s made the game look much closer than it actually was by making stupid mistakes and giving sloppy penalties. Wanted to take them to the cleaners 🤣🤣🤣 - Bec Turner

So pleased for Tommo, deserved his try. Great game everyone, thoroughly enjoyed it - maybe not the last 20 mins but hey, job done, 2 points and knocked Vegas out of the park👏👏👏 Louise McCaffrey

I thought Harrison was Superb, he should start with Vaughan, and Yates rotate at loose with Currie. I feel like we're missing a big forward, Musgrove hits below his size and has poor stamina so is not the answer. David William Taylor

So glad I wasn't daft enough to spend the monies discussed to go over there to be ultimately embarrassed. You can't make the commercial effort for 6 months to get the support going over and offer that result. Phil Cosgrove

Usually rubbish from so called fans! Wigan were excellent and would have blown most teams away with that level of performance. Wire will learn & hopefully come back stronger. Andy Gordan

The Final Word

There is no doubt that the Wigan Warriors are an exceptional Rugby League team, and the entire Rugby League community should cherish every moment spent watching them. They possess a well-rounded squad, featuring a formidable forward pack and explosive speed in the backline, enhanced by the remarkable talents of players like Field, French, and Nsemba. Harry Smith exemplified outstanding game management, taking advantage of ample time to execute his kicks with precision.

It's fair to say that whoever finishes above Wigan in 2025 will likely be lifting the silverware, making it challenging to foresee any other outcome. The Warriors must feel a great sense of relief having secured long-term contracts for both French and Nsemba, as their performances were undoubtedly among the best of the evening.

Warrington Wolves fans harboured concerns about their team's performance this season, fearing a potential loss. They likely wished that Toby King’s try had been awarded, as it could have altered the outcome in their favour. However, it was not to be, and the Wigan Warriors demonstrated their dominance on the field. Such results are not uncommon in Rugby League; one might recall Warrington's impressive victory against the champions at the Brick Community Stadium last year. The key distinction is that Wigan quickly moved past the setback, demonstrating their trophy-winning pedigree.

What does this outcome signify for the Wolves in the long term? While only two championship points were at stake, the match carried the weight and feel of a significant final, and once again, the Wolves faltered under pressure.
