Betfred Challenge Cup Sunday Round Up!

Bradford Bulls 18 - 16 Castleford Tigers

A valiant second-half resurgence from the Castleford Tigers, who found themselves trailing 17 - 0 at the interval, proved insufficient to overcome the steadfast and formidable Bradford Bulls. From the outset, it appeared that this clash might spell the end for one of the twelve Super League contenders, and so it came to pass. Danny McGuire had little to smile about other than perhaps the debut try from new signing of Jeremiah Simbiken. The Tigers now face the shadow of three consecutive losses in 2025 and must summon greater strength to evade the dreaded wooden spoon in the Super League. As for the Bradford Bulls, the winds of fortune may very well be in their favour, as they chase glory in either the Championship or the 1895 Cup.

Batley Bulldogs 24 - 4 Dewsbury Rams

Joe Arundel bagged a brace, while Render, Manning, and Robbie Butterworth added their names to the try-scoring party, making the Dewsbury Rams look like they were playing in slow motion! Bulldogs coach Mark Moxon must be grinning from ear to ear as they strut into the Cups next round. But wait—Sunday brings a wild away showdown against Oldham in the Championship. Buckle up!

Featherstone Rovers 68 - 0 Rose Ince Bridge

It has been 42 years since the Rovers triumphantly hoisted the illustrious trophy at Wembley, overcoming Hull FC with a heart-stopping score of 14-12 in a nail biting final. While the odds may not favour a repeat of such glory in 2025, Featherstone eagerly anticipates the draw for Round 4 this Saturday and will hope to face a Super League side at home. In a twist of fate, former Tiger Darrell Olpherts graced the score sheet twice on a day when his old team faltered at Odsall. This match was a veritable stroll, further fuelling the debate among skeptics who argue for the exclusion of amateur sides from the tournament. Yet, tell Rose Ince’s players this, and they would respond with tales of joy, cherishing every moment and crafting memories that will last a lifetime.

Midland Hurricance 10 - 46 Salford Red Devils

With the joyous tidings of the Salford Red Devils' triumphant takeover echoing through the air on Friday morning, there was little time for Paul Rowley and his valiant squad to raise their glasses in celebration, for the Midland Hurricanes awaited on the horizon. Fast forward to 1600 on Sunday night, and one could envision Paul, the first to uncork a bottle of Dom Perignon 13, toasting to his players, staff, and the victory in the Midlands, as if his name was Rowley, Paul Rowley Yet, he would acknowledge the need for his team to elevate their performance in for next weeks game at the Saints, as the Hurricanes showcased commendable spirit throughout the match. Salford supporters would have rejoiced at the stellar display by Jayden Nikorima, who earned the coveted man of the match title, alongside a debut try from the talented Esan Marsters.

North Wales Crusaders 20 - 26 Widnes Vikings

Allan Coleman will exhale a tremendous sigh of relief as his Widnes side toiled valiantly for their victory, with Rhys Williams standing out as the key player, weaving a spell of brilliance with a hat-trick of tries. This season, the Championship appears poised to mirror the Super League, promising to be one of the most eagerly awaited and thrilling seasons in years, and Widnes aims to secure their place among the elite as the season unfolds. Following the jubilant highs of a pre-season triumph at Warrington, this match may prompt the Vikings' faithful to brace themselves for yet another exhilarating rollercoaster of emotions in 2025. A nod of respect goes to the League 1 Crusaders, who pushed Widnes to the very edge; everyone at SLR wishes them well on their journey in League 1 this year.

Hunslet 6 - 34 Huddersfield Giants

A triumphant victory in the cup has bolstered the confidence of Luke Robinson's Giants at Hunslet, his gaze now firmly set on the Betfred Super League opener at the John Smith's Stadium next Sunday against the Warrington Wolves. Who better to provide insight than the Giants' head coach:

Oldham 42 - 4 Barrow Raiders

Waves of worry wash over the Barrow Raiders as their Championship adversaries, Oldham, glided effortlessly into Round 4 with a commanding triumph. One could scarcely fathom that these two clubs will share the same division in 2025, given the disheartening display by the Raiders. At 18-0 by halftime, hope lingered just within reach, but Raiders got worse not better in the second half and the rest as they say is history.
